Michael is a Senior Associate in the Sustainable Finance Center and the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities at the World Resources Institute. He is part of the core team for WRI’s World Resources Report on cities, Towards a More Equal City, and the New Climate Economy’s Coalition for Urban Transitions, and also leads work on climate finance.
Before joining WRI, Michael was a Senior Associate at Abt Associates, where he was the Technical Director for USAID’s Analysis and Investment for Low-Emission Growth project. He has worked for and consulted for a number of international organizations on climate change and development, including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme. Prior to this, Michael was an American Association for the Advancement of Science Policy Fellow in the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of International Affairs, where he worked with the State Department on a science cooperation project in the former Soviet Union.
Michael holds a PhD in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from the University of California at Berkeley, with a focus on ecological modeling and conservation planning.
