Jared Wright

Director of Advocacy and Government Relations

Jared Wright is the Director of Advocacy and Government Relations for the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM), the recognized advocate for local government interests in British Columbia. Jared’s professional background includes twenty years of experience in the non-governmental and corporate sectors in business development, competitive intelligence, policy and regulatory development, and government relations.

Jared manages the environmental policy portfolio at UBCM, where he advocates on behalf of local governments on a wide range of issues at the provincial and federal levels. For the past nine years, he has supported local governments’ efforts to meet their commitments under the BC Climate Action Charter. He has also sat on several industry boards and councils, including the Recycling Council of British Columbia and the National Zero Waste Council.

Jared holds a BA (Honours) from Queen’s University in Sociology and Political Science and a Master’s degree in International Relations from Dalhousie University. He has been awarded such honours as the Canada-US Fulbright Scholarship as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work in building local government capacity in developing countries.
